Evelyn Tan and Darren Lim, renowned personalities in Singapore's entertainment industry, have shared two decades of marriage. Their journey, however, was not without challenges. They first met six years before tying the knot, during which time Evelyn's parents disapproved of their relationship. Darren, now 52, and Evelyn, 50, have overcome these initial hurdles to build a fulfilling family life together. Their story gained renewed attention as they featured in the reality travel program "Camping Around the World," where they candidly discussed their relationship.
During their early courtship, Darren struggled with a bad temper and feelings of insecurity. He recalled, "I was young back then and was very self-righteous. I didn't like having others dictate how I did things." This led to frequent quarrels over trivial matters, such as Evelyn leaving the closet door ajar or not switching off lights after using the toilet. Evelyn remembers one particular fight that ended with her being sent home, leaving her in tears. "I remembered my tears falling the moment the door was shut," she recounted.
Despite these challenges, the couple has thrived and grown stronger over the years. Evelyn chose to step away from her showbiz career to focus on raising their four children: Kristen, Jarius, Way, and Elliot. However, she made a return to acting in 2024 with a role in the local drama "Moments." Meanwhile, Darren reflected on his early insecurities: "I recall always feeling insecure when we first got to know each other. That's one reason, the other was because my looks gave others the impression that I was a playboy who couldn't settle down."
The couple's resilience is evident in how they have learned to adapt and understand each other better. Evelyn admitted to learning the importance of letting go of her ego to diminish hurt during arguments. Their first serious quarrel over the way Evelyn pulled tissue paper from a box exemplified the trivial origins of many of their disagreements.
