Character AI Expands Entertainment Horizons with New Games and Safety Features

Character AI, an innovative AI entertainment company, is making waves with a series of new developments aimed at enhancing user experience and safety. With the introduction of new games and safety features, Character AI seeks to solidify its position as a leader in AI-driven entertainment. The company has launched two interactive games, Speakeasy and War of Words, which are currently available to paid subscribers and select free users. In addition to expanding its entertainment offerings, Character AI has bolstered its safety tools, particularly for teenage users, by implementing more prominent labels on AI characters.

Users of Character AI spend an average of 98 minutes per day on the app, showcasing the platform's captivating appeal. The new games, Speakeasy and War of Words, introduce unique challenges for users. Speakeasy tasks players with getting a chatbot to say a specific word without using five forbidden words. Meanwhile, War of Words involves a dynamic duel with AI characters, where an AI referee determines the winner of each round. These games reflect Character AI's objective to deliver immersive entertainment experiences.

“Our goal as an AI entertainment company is to find ways to make the Character AI experience even more fun and entertaining. We’re currently testing a feature that allows gameplay with your favorite Characters, all while keeping the immersive experience users love,” a spokesperson said.

Character AI's commitment to user safety remains paramount. The company has introduced a time-out notification for users who spend 60 consecutive minutes on the app, encouraging healthier usage habits. Dominic Perella, who recently stepped into the role of interim CEO following the departure of co-founders Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas to Google, emphasized the company's dedication to evolving its safety practices.

“While there are companies in the space that are focused on connecting people to AI companions, that’s not what we are going for at Character AI. What we want to do is really create a much more wholesome entertainment platform. And so, as we grow and as we sort of push toward that goal of having people creating stories, sharing stories on our platform, we need to evolve our safety practices to be first class,” said Dominic Perella.

In addition to the leadership changes, Character AI has appointed a former YouTube executive as their chief product officer. This strategic hire underscores the company's focus on enhancing its product offerings and expanding its reach in the entertainment sector.

Character AI continues to innovate by allowing gameplay with users' favorite Characters, a feature currently under testing. Many users have already created personalized characters for text-based games such as the Space Adventure Game, adding another layer of engagement to the platform.
