Daikin Launches Joint Venture to Cool Taiwan’s Semiconductor Industry

Daikin Industries has taken a strategic step to bolster its presence in Taiwan's industrial air conditioning market by establishing a joint venture. The new entity, called Daikin (Taiwan) Air Conditioning Systems, aims to sell large industrial air conditioners, particularly targeting Taiwan's booming semiconductor industry. Officially launched in August, this venture is a collaboration between Daikin, Japanese air conditioning giant, Leading Electric & Machinery, a local industrial air conditioner manufacturer, and Hotai Development, Daikin's Taiwanese distributor.

The announcement, made on Wednesday, underscores Daikin’s commitment to capitalizing on Taiwan's burgeoning chip manufacturing sector. With the country's semiconductor industry led by giants like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the demand for state-of-the-art air conditioning systems is on the rise. Daikin has identified air conditioners for chip fabs and similar facilities as a critical growth pillar, positioning the new joint venture as a pivotal component in their expansion strategy.

Daikin's involvement with Taiwan is not entirely new, as the company already maintains a presence through Hotai Development. However, this joint venture marks a significant expansion of their operations in the region. By partnering with Leading Electric & Machinery and Hotai Development, Daikin aims to leverage local expertise and existing distribution channels to enhance its market penetration.

Although the specific location of the joint venture was not disclosed, its creation represents a new business venture for Daikin in Taiwan. The collaboration with local partners suggests a tailored approach to meet the specific needs of Taiwan's industrial sector, particularly its semiconductor industry. This strategic move aligns with Daikin's broader objectives to establish itself as a leader in the industrial air conditioning market.
