Hayley Woo, a 32-year-old actress, faced an unexpected challenge while filming her first action movie role as Leena in "Baby Hero." During the production in Thailand, she contracted Covid-19, which led to her being written out of the film's sole action sequence. This unfortunate turn of events occurred amidst the cast and crew's month-long shoot in the blistering 43-degree Celsius heat.
Initially, Hayley mistook her symptoms for mere heatiness, a common ailment in such sweltering conditions. However, her health took a turn for the worse, necessitating her transfer to a local hospital just two days before the planned action scene. Despite her illness, Hayley had been eagerly preparing for this moment with professional Thai stunt trainers, marking her first foray into stunt training.
Hayley's co-stars provided significant support during her illness. Fellow actress Ya Hui regularly checked on her well-being, ensuring she had everything she needed.
"Ya Hui really looked after me, always asking if I'd eaten my meals and if there was anything she could do for me." – Hayley
Thai actor Vithaya 'Pipu' Pansringarm and other cast members also reached out, offering encouragement during her challenging time.
"I also really appreciate [Thai actor Vithaya 'Pipu' Pansringarm] and the others. They'd always text me and tell me, 'Hey, don't be depressed, don't be sad! We're here for you.' I was in a bad place at that point in time." – Hayley
The actress endured a five-day battle with the virus, made more difficult by being away from home. Despite these difficulties, she found solace in long-distance support from her family and loved ones.
"I was stuck in quarantine, and being overseas made me even more homesick." – Hayley
Her family played a crucial role in her recovery process. Her two-year-old niece, Jan, brought much-needed cheer during this period. The warmth and concern from both her family and the film's cast and crew helped Hayley navigate this tough phase.
