Singaporean Couple Forgives Indonesian Teens After Harassment Incident

A Singaporean couple faced an unsettling experience in Bandung, West Java, on December 31, when three Indonesian teenagers harassed them while they strolled along a street. The incident, captured on video by the couple, showed the teenagers trailing them closely. In response, the Bandung police launched an investigation into the matter.

The police chief, Budi Sartono, stated that the investigation ceased after one of the victims accepted a public apology from the teenagers involved. Opting for forgiveness over legal recourse, the couple decided not to pursue any further action against the perpetrators.

“The victim has confirmed that she will not continue the legal process into the case as she saw the perpetrators had apologised on social media and thought this would serve as a lesson as the perpetrators are children,” – Budi Sartono

The harrowing incident highlighted the potential dangers faced by visitors in unfamiliar environments. However, the swift resolution demonstrated the willingness of both parties to settle the matter amicably. The couple's decision to forgive stems from their understanding of the teenagers' age and intent to teach them a valuable lesson.

Police chief Budi Sartono emphasized that the investigation's halt followed the acceptance of the apology by one of the victims. He reiterated that the decision was influenced by the fact that the perpetrators were young and had shown remorse through a public apology on social media.
