In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance Thailand's global presence in the fashion industry, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has announced a collaboration with supermodel Naomi Campbell. The project, part of Thaksin's campaign to promote soft power, aims to boost Thailand's economy and create earning opportunities for its citizens. Campbell will visit Thailand from February 8 to 10 to offer advice on training Thai talent to become top models, providing them with the tools needed to compete on the world stage.
The initiative, unveiled at a recent event at Nakhon Phanom University, seeks to identify and nurture Thai models from rural villages to the national level. Thaksin emphasized the project's focus on finding individuals who exemplify natural beauty, without reliance on cosmetic surgery.
"We will screen Thais who are born beautiful by nature, without beauty surgery," he stated.
Open to individuals of all genders, the initiative invites those with potential and aspiration to step forward. Thaksin believes in the potential of Thai people to follow in Campbell's footsteps and achieve success in the modeling world.
"Anyone inspired to become a world-class model can come out of their small hut to join the scheme," he added.
This initiative is not just about elevating Thailand's representation in the modeling industry but also a strategic move to stimulate economic growth by creating new avenues for income. By scouting and training homegrown talent, Thaksin aims to position Thai models as strong competitors internationally, thereby enhancing the country's cultural influence and economic prospects.
While Campbell's visit is confirmed, she has yet to make any public announcements regarding her participation in this initiative. Her involvement is expected to bring a wealth of expertise and insight into the fashion industry, particularly in model training techniques.
