Thousands of protesters flooded the streets of Manila on January 31, voicing their demand for the Philippine House of Representatives to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte. The demonstrators accused Duterte of misconduct and misappropriating millions of dollars in government funds. With three impeachment complaints filed against her, the House has yet to address these grievances, even as Congress approaches adjournment ahead of the May midterm elections.
The protesters, predominantly clad in white shirts, marched with placards emblazoned with calls for Duterte's removal. Their chants of "Impeach! Impeach Sara now!" echoed through the city streets. The protest underscored the public's frustration with what they perceive as a lack of accountability in government.

House Representative Percival Cendana joined the rally, urging his fellow lawmakers to act promptly on the impeachment proceedings. Cendana emphasized that inaction would constitute a failure to the citizens advocating for Duterte's impeachment.

The movement for Duterte's impeachment is not without opposition. Earlier this month, a conservative sect organized a massive rally against her impeachment, drawing approximately 4,000 participants. To maintain order, authorities deployed 7,400 riot police during the event.
President Ferdinand Marcos has advised Congress against pursuing the impeachment, labeling it a "storm in a teacup" that could divert attention from more pressing legislative duties. For an impeachment to proceed, it requires endorsement by one-third of the House members and a subsequent two-thirds vote in the Senate for removal from office.
Vice President Sara Duterte has consistently denied allegations of misconduct and misuse of state funds. Despite the growing calls for her ouster, she maintains her innocence and commitment to her role.
