Apple's latest operating system, iOS 18, has achieved a 68% adoption rate across compatible iPhones, according to recent figures released by the tech giant. This milestone indicates a strong uptake among users, despite some initial hurdles with its marquee feature, Apple Intelligence. Notably, the adoption rate drops to 5% for devices running earlier iOS versions. Meanwhile, 53% of all iPads are now operating on iPadOS 18, with the figure climbing to 63% for those released in the last four years.
The adoption of iOS 18 is particularly impressive among iPhones released in the past four years, with 78% of these devices running the new system. However, 19% of these newer models still operate on iOS 17, mirroring figures previously recorded with the release of iOS 17. Apple's data further reveals that 13% of remaining iPhones continue to use versions predating iOS 17.
Despite its widespread adoption, iOS 18 faced some early issues with Apple Intelligence, a key feature touted upon release. The company had to address certain setbacks, including the rollback of News notification summaries, to enhance the user experience. This challenge didn't deter the overall enthusiasm for the update, as users have gradually transitioned to the current public version, iOS 18.2.1.
The journey of iOS 18 began with its first major update, version 18.1, which addressed initial bugs and enhanced system stability. Subsequent updates, particularly iOS 18.2, introduced additional features that bolstered user engagement and satisfaction. These enhancements have contributed to maintaining Apple's reputation for delivering cutting-edge technology paired with a user-friendly interface.
In comparison to previous iterations, the adoption rate for iOS 18 aligns closely with those observed during the rollout of iOS 17. This consistency underscores Apple's ability to maintain momentum with each new release, encouraging users to stay current with their software.
