Brightpick has announced an innovative addition to its line of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) with the introduction of the Giraffe system. This cutting-edge robot, designed to enhance warehouse operations, features two supply bins and can extend up to an impressive 11 feet. The Giraffe system, notable for its large retractable platform, can reach heights of up to 20 feet, making it a significant advancement in inventory management technology. The new system will begin deployment in 2025 with two major customers across the United States.
Amazon, as part of its Industrial Innovation Fund, invested in Brightpick in 2022, backing the company's ambitious endeavors in robotics innovation. The Giraffe system is designed to work seamlessly with Brightpick's existing Autopicker robot, creating a dynamic duo that promises to triple warehouse density compared to traditional manual operations. This combination also doubles the efficiency of Brightpick's current solutions, offering compelling advantages to businesses seeking to optimize their warehouse spaces.
The Giraffe boasts an advanced telescoping arm with three overlapping segments, measuring 8.5 feet when fully stowed. This design allows the robot to adeptly pick items from warehouse shelves without the need for constant extension and retraction. Its functionality is reminiscent of the telescoping warehouse robots developed by Dexory, a London-based company. However, Dexory faces competition in tall-shelf warehouse inventory management from drone-based scanning startups such as Gather AI, Verity, and Corvus.
Brightpick's Giraffe system is set to be deployed by two significant customers. Medical supply firm McGuff Company plans to implement four Giraffes alongside a dozen Autopickers at their California warehouse. Additionally, e-commerce retailer The Feed will employ six Giraffes and 73 Autopickers at its Colorado facility. These deployments underline the growing demand for advanced robotic solutions in the logistics sector.
BionicHive offers an alternative with its Squid systems, which operate on shelf-mounted tracks to retrieve inventory efficiently. Despite this, Brightpick remains confident that its Giraffe/Autopicker combo will set new industry standards for warehouse automation.
