Coldplay’s Captivating Singapore Sojourn: A Musical Ode to Diversity

Coldplay has unveiled a mesmerizing music video filmed in Singapore, part of their 10th studio album, "Moon Music," released in October 2024. The video, a collaboration with Warner Music Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), showcases the vibrant multiculturalism and iconic sights of the city-state. Released on February 7, it is already making waves, trending eighth in the music category on YouTube.

The video takes viewers on a visual journey through Singapore's rich tapestry of everyday life and tourist attractions. It features local sights like a kopitiam in Geylang and the bustling alleys of Kampong Glam. Iconic landmarks such as Gardens by the Bay, Fort Canning Park, the Jewel Rain Vortex at Changi Airport, and Resorts World Sentosa's S.E.A. Aquarium add to the allure.

Filmed between Coldplay's six concerts in Singapore this January, the video captures the essence of the young, vibrant people the band encountered. It features youths from diverse racial backgrounds, including two individuals cosplaying as characters from Genshin Impact. Local talent shines through with appearances by artistes like singer-songwriter Shazza.

The narrative begins with a truck picking up a young woman outside an HDB flat and dropping her off at People's Park Complex. The captivating imagery continues as Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion perform on a floating platform against the stunning backdrop of Singapore's skyline.

"While we were in Singapore, we shot the video and captured some of the amazing, young, vibrant people whom we had met. We are interested in shooting things in places we have never filmed before and mixing people up as much as possible. It was really fun to have a kind of dance party out in the middle of the water, just us and the otters." – Coldplay

The video not only highlights Singapore's sights but also its spirit. It seamlessly blends local culture with international music, showcasing a city where tradition meets modernity. This project underscores Coldplay's commitment to exploring new creative landscapes and celebrating diversity through art.
