Angie Lau, a beloved local getai singer, passed away at the age of 58. She left behind two children, a son, aged 18, and a daughter, aged 16. Her life and career were marked by her triumphs and battles, including a struggle with cancer that ultimately took her life. Lau's contributions to the entertainment world and her courageous fight against illness remain poignant reminders of her resilient spirit.
Lau's career reached a pinnacle when she won Mediacorp's GeTai Challenge in 2018, a testament to her talent and dedication to the art form. As a mentor on the variety show Golden Age Talentime, she inspired aspiring performers with her expertise and passion. However, her personal life presented challenges following her divorce in 2019. Despite having joint custody of their children, Lau faced difficulties when her ex-husband ceased paying the agreed $1,000 child support after just three months.
"I know it's really not easy battling cancer. There are also days when I am feeling down. But when I think about my two children, I must fight hard and survive."
Diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and lymphoma in 2014, Angie Lau underwent rigorous treatment and initially made a recovery. Yet, her health fluctuated over the years, causing concern among her loved ones. In May of the previous year, Lau revealed her condition was deteriorating. Tragically, her cancer relapsed in March 2023, advancing to stage four and spreading to her lymph nodes, lungs, throat, bones, and brain.
"I really don't know what to say. Thank you all for your concern,"
Throughout her battle with cancer, Lau remained steadfast in her resolve to live for her children. Her story of perseverance resonated with many who admired her strength in the face of adversity. Despite her struggles, she continued to inspire those around her with a message of hope and resilience.
