In a significant diplomatic development, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has voiced strong opposition to a controversial proposal by former US President Donald Trump regarding the Gaza conflict. During a visit to Malaysia, Erdogan condemned the plan, emphasizing the need to preserve Palestinian rights. This comes in the wake of a recent ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas on January 19, after a protracted 16-month conflict.
The war in Gaza has had devastating consequences, claiming the lives of over 47,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, according to Gaza's health ministry. The intense conflict has left the territory's infrastructure in ruins, with approximately 50 million tonnes of debris scattered across the region. Turkey and Malaysia have been vocal critics of Israel's military actions throughout this period, advocating for a peaceful resolution.
