Remembering Moses Lim: A Legacy of Laughter and Love

Veteran comedian-host Moses Lim passed away at the age of 75, leaving behind a legacy as one of Singapore’s most cherished television icons. Known for his roles in popular shows such as "Under One Roof" and "Comedy Nite," Lim enjoyed a remarkable career spanning several decades. He died after being hospitalized for over 10 days due to poor health. A devoted father and a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, Lim's passing marks the end of an era for many who knew him both personally and professionally.

Lim's career was notable not only for his comedic talent but also for his contributions as a mentor to aspiring performers. He starred in "Under One Roof," a sitcom where he played the memorable character Tan Ah Teck across seven successful seasons. His work on "Comedy Nite" also spanned a decade, during which he became a revered mentor to many young comedians. Known for his energetic and positive spirit, Lim guided rookies with patience, helping them perform naturally during live performances.

"He would coordinate with us during the performances. As rookies, sometimes when we had problems during a live performance, such as forgetting our lines, he and Jack would remind us of our lines, and this helped us to perform naturally. He wasn't someone who would take advantage of his seniority, so to us, he was a very good role model." – Zhu Houren

Colleagues like Mark Lee and Jack Neo remember Lim fondly for his generosity and support. Mark Lee shared heartfelt memories of Lim, reflecting on the joy he brought to both colleagues and audiences alike.

"We are comedians and have brought a lot of laughter to our audience. I think it is a loss to me as well as viewers." – Mark Lee

Despite his absence from television in recent years, Lim remained a vibrant presence in the lives of those who knew him. His passion for food was well-known, earning him recognition as a gourmet foodie, and he enjoyed sharing stories about his culinary adventures with friends and family.

"I could see that Moses looked very happy when he talked about food, his grandchildren and children. I could see he had a happy retired life and one that many retirees longed for – to eat, go home to his grandchildren and play with them." – Mark Lee

Lim's dedication extended beyond the screen to his role as a loving father and a friend to many. He was known for his unwavering commitment to those around him, often putting others' needs before his own.

"He was heavy and I remembered he fell backwards but stood up immediately. He was already in his forties then. I knew he was definitely in pain, but he didn't want us to worry and disrupt the rehearsals. I feel that he was someone who really took care of the whole team." – Mark Lee

His ability to inspire others was evident in the tributes from those who worked closely with him. Nicholas Lee expressed deep sorrow at Lim's passing, referring to him as a second father whose loss was indescribable.

"My dearest Moses, you are like the second dad I've lost and the pain is indescribable. I shall treasure always and fondly the many moments we shared during those years of incredible joy," – Nicholas Lee

Lim Yew Huat highlighted Lim's professionalism across different facets of his career, emphasizing the void left by his departure from the entertainment world.

"Moses was a gourmet foodie and actor. Whether it was reviewing food, hosting or acting, he was very professional. We have lost another national treasure." – Lim Yew Huat

Chew Chor Meng celebrated Lim's life by acknowledging the joy he brought to others.

"Thank you Moses for showing us that life's greatest achievements are measured in the smiles we create and the hearts we touch. You may have left the stage, but the joy you brought this lifetime will echo through generations beyond. Take your bow, Tan Ah Teck. You've given us the performance of a lifetime. A television icon, a devoted father, and a Singapore treasure. What a wonderful show it has been." – Chew Chor Meng
