Apple has unveiled its latest innovation in wearable technology with the release of the Powerbeats Pro 2 headphones. These headphones mark a significant expansion of Apple's health portfolio, which has been primarily centered around the Apple Watch. Featuring an array of advanced health and fitness capabilities such as ECG readings, fall detection, and sleep tracking, the Powerbeats Pro 2 are designed to enhance users' health monitoring experiences.
The Powerbeats Pro 2 showcase several key improvements from their predecessor. Notably, the ear hooks are now crafted from a nickel alloy, offering enhanced strength and durability. This model also sees a reduction in weight by 20%, ensuring a more comfortable fit for prolonged use. Additionally, Apple conducted extensive testing on 1,000 athletes to develop a universal fit that caters to diverse user needs.
Battery life has been extended in this iteration, with the Powerbeats Pro 2 boasting a 10-hour listening time, compared to 9 hours from the previous version. The new charging case further extends total battery life from 24 to an impressive 45 hours. In a bid to align with modern charging standards, Apple has replaced the Lightning port with a USB-C port.
Under the hood, the Powerbeats Pro 2 feature a significant upgrade from Apple's W2 chip to the H2 chip, first seen in the AirPods Pro 2 in 2022. This H2 chip remains Apple's top-of-the-line headphone processor until the anticipated release of AirPods Pro 3. The headphones also introduce innovative sound features such as Spatial Audio with head tracking and Adaptive EQ technology, providing users with an immersive audio experience.
The Powerbeats Pro 2 include a hearing aid feature, which is expected to be incorporated into future AirPods updates. With an IPX4 rating for sweat resistance, these headphones are equipped to withstand intense workouts and daily activities alike, matching the resilience of the current AirPods.
Available online starting today at a price of $250, the Powerbeats Pro 2 are set to hit store shelves on Thursday, February 13. This launch signifies Apple's commitment to advancing health and audio technology through its diverse product lineup.
