May Mobility Expands Driverless Shuttle Service in Peachtree Corners

May Mobility has introduced its first driverless commercial ride-hail service in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, marking a significant milestone in autonomous vehicle technology. The service, operational since September 2024, offers free on-demand autonomous vehicle shuttles along the 3-mile Technology Parkway. This stretch of road, located in the Atlanta metropolitan area, is dedicated solely to autonomous vehicles, providing a unique and controlled environment for testing and deployment.

May Mobility plans to further expand its reach by integrating its autonomous vehicles into the Lyft app later this year. This strategic move aims to broaden accessibility and increase the convenience of the service. The company has already eliminated the need for a human safety operator and has begun charging for rides, signaling confidence in the technology's reliability and safety.

Technology Parkway serves as a 5G-enabled autonomous vehicle test track and is a key component of the Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners, a city-owned living laboratory. This initiative exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to urban mobility and technological innovation. The shuttle service operates Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., covering eight pre-set stops along the route, making it accessible and convenient for the public.

May Mobility's approach to deploying autonomous vehicles sets it apart from its industry peers by offering on-demand shuttles and pooled ride options. This model not only enhances user experience but also optimizes resource utilization. The company's previous deployments include a small-scale launch in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in November 2024, as well as a driverless service for retired adults in Sun City, Arizona, which commenced in December 2023.

May Mobility has been recognized for its innovative efforts and has been featured across various reputable publications such as Bloomberg CityLab, The Atlantic, and Mother Jones. The company's founder, who previously covered social media for Forbes.com, continues to drive May Mobility toward pioneering advancements in the autonomous vehicle sector.
