Plain Secures $15M to Revolutionize B2B Customer Support Platforms

Plain
, a UK-based technology company founded by Simon Rohrbach and Matt Vagni, has successfully raised $15 million in a Series A funding round led by Battery Ventures. The company plans to use part of the funds to establish its first US office in San Francisco, marking a significant step in its expansion efforts. Plain’s innovative API-first platform aims to consolidate all communications channels into a single interface, simplifying customer support for businesses. This strategic move aligns with Plain’s mission to enhance collaboration between support, customer success, and engineering teams.

With over 250 customers, including notable names such as Sanity, Laravel, Stytch, and Raycast, Plain's platform is already making waves in the industry. The platform handles chat, email, and support requests through one user-friendly interface and is capable of operating across popular platforms like Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Discord.

“It means you can literally talk to your customers wherever they are,” – Simon Rohrbach

Rohrbach brings valuable experience from his previous role at Deliveroo, where he led a team focused on content, research, and design. Co-founder Matt Vagni also contributed significantly at Deliveroo by working on design systems and internal tooling. Together, they have crafted a platform that not only provides traditional support functionalities but also offers metrics around SLAs and response times. The platform's design seeks to make customer support more collaborative and AI-powered.

“B2B support is moving into this new era of collaboration and AI.” – Neeraj Agrawal

Plain's system stands out for its speed and ease of use, which has garnered positive feedback from its users. However, the company faces competition in the arena of aggregating customer support channels with players like Thena and Pylon also in the field.

“We see this big shift happening from support being really siloed, to support working together with customer success and engineering and all the other teams really closely. And we power that internal collaboration as well,” – Mike Butcher
