Austin-based defense startup Saronic has successfully raised $600 million in a Series C funding round, significantly boosting its valuation to an impressive $4 billion. The infusion of capital will facilitate the construction of "Port Alpha," a state-of-the-art autonomous ship factory. This ambitious project aims to revolutionize the shipbuilding industry by focusing on the production of large unmanned vessels. The factory, described as the 'shipyard of the future,' is expected to commence operations within the next five years.
Dino Mavrookas, Saronic's co-founder and CEO, attributes the company's rapid valuation increase to its innovative approach and swift development of new vessels and software. Currently, Saronic has developed three models of autonomous surface vessels (ASVs), each measuring up to 24 feet—about half the length of a modern lifeboat. These advanced ASVs are set to play a crucial role in enhancing U.S. shipbuilding capabilities, positioning the nation to better compete with global powers such as China.
Saronic's cumulative fundraising now approaches $850 million, reflecting strong investor confidence in its technological vision and potential market impact. The company is reportedly in discussions for another funding round, which could elevate its valuation to $5 billion. The planned factory will significantly enhance the production scale and efficiency of Saronic's autonomous ship offerings.

Anduril, another key player in the sector, recently announced plans to establish a billion-dollar megafactory in Ohio.
