Zhang Yaodong, the Malaysian actor known for his roles in various television dramas, is no longer associated with Mediacorp, as reported by 8world on February 20. This development follows a series of controversies surrounding Yaodong, particularly allegations that emerged last June. The actor has been accused of fathering children with multiple women across different countries, leading to intense public scrutiny.
The controversies began when netizens made allegations about Yaodong's personal life, claiming he has children in Indonesia, Thailand, and China. A netizen named Xiaotudou posted on Xiaohongshu with the title "About Zhang Yaodong in Singapore," sharing an image of a man resembling Yaodong in bed. Further allegations suggest that Yaodong has a Singaporean girlfriend of 20 years who has given birth to two daughters and aborted one child.
In November last year, Yaodong took to Instagram to confirm his status as a father. He shared a photograph featuring two teenagers dressed in traditional Korean clothing, posing in front of a hanok. Despite this admission, the actor has been accused of asking a woman to abort a child, which she allegedly refused.
The fallout from these allegations has been significant. Zhang Yaodong's details have reportedly been removed from The Celebrity Agency's website. Among the accusations, one Xiaohongshu user claims that the oldest of his children is 10 years old. Furthermore, netizens allege that he has been involved romantically with several women.
In response to these accusations, Yaodong has taken legal steps and filed a police report. He continues to navigate the complexities of these allegations while maintaining his public image. Interestingly, he recently received the award for Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste at the Star Awards 2024, signifying his enduring popularity despite the controversies.
Yaodong has also faced criticism regarding his professional work in Singapore. A voice clip circulating online mentions that "Singapore's scripts are famous for being lousy," suggesting dissatisfaction with his acting projects. Despite this, the actor remains committed to his craft and public engagements.
In a recent statement reflecting on his experiences, Yaodong expressed gratitude for meaningful moments amidst the turmoil.
"Although the trip was short, it was meaningful," – Zhang Yaodong
The public discourse around Yaodong's personal and professional life continues to evolve as more details emerge. The actor's next steps remain uncertain as he addresses both legal challenges and professional commitments.
