Beeper Launches Redesigned iOS and Desktop Apps Following Acquisition

Beeper, a messaging platform acquired by Automattic for $125 million, is unveiling redesigned apps for iOS and desktop in beta. This launch follows the recent merger with Texts.com, an earlier acquisition by Automattic. The desktop application, based on the foundation of Texts.com's app, and a completely new iOS app are part of this rollout. Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Beeper and former partner at Y-Combinator, has shifted his focus back to rebuilding the Pebble smartwatch.

The newly designed Mac app will soon enable users to send and receive iMessages, a feature that promises to enhance user experience significantly. These enhancements come as Automattic seeks to integrate Beeper with Texts.com, a strategic move aimed at strengthening its portfolio in the messaging service category. Kishan Bagaria, the founder of Texts.com, plays a pivotal role in this integration process.

Beeper Cloud, a central component of the new apps, stores messages and credentials for various services, ensuring seamless user experience across platforms. While existing users can continue using the old app for now, they will eventually need to migrate to the new set of applications. The company assures users of a straightforward migration process to facilitate this transition.

Founded by Eric Migicovsky, Beeper initially gained attention due to Migicovsky's innovative background. He previously founded the Pebble smartwatch and was a partner at Y-Combinator, bringing a wealth of experience to his ventures. However, with the acquisition and integration of Beeper into Automattic's ecosystem, Migicovsky has redirected his efforts towards revitalizing Pebble.
