Fatal Bus Crash in Prachin Buri Sparks Swift Government Investigation

A tragic road accident involving a bus carrying 49 passengers, including the driver, occurred in the early hours at 3:09 a.m. in the Nai district of Prachin Buri. The bus, en route from Bueng Kan to Rayong, overturned on a downhill road, resulting in 18 fatalities and injuring 31 others. The devastating incident has prompted an immediate investigation by the Transport Ministry.

The ill-fated bus was operated by driver Nawin Chupanya, whose public transport license was nearing expiration on September 6th of this year. The vehicle belonged to Boonthan Chatree and was fully insured under a liability policy with Mittare Insurance Plc, offering a compensation limit of 10 million baht. Each family of the deceased will receive 50,000 baht, while the injured will have their medical fees covered up to the same amount. Additionally, the bus was protected under compulsory accident insurance, providing further financial support of 35,000 baht for deceased victims' families and 30,000 baht for medical expenses per injured individual.

In response to the grave situation, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit have commanded the Transport Ministry to expedite their investigation into the accident's cause. The Land Transport Department will also conduct an inquiry into the incident and enforce rigorous safety checks on chartered buses to avert future occurrences. Legal actions will be pursued if any violations regarding the bus's condition are discovered.

The crash highlights significant concerns over vehicle safety and regulation enforcement within the public transportation sector. Authorities are determined to ensure accountability and prevent such tragedies from recurring.
