The Australian Grand Prix organisers have reinstated the revered tradition of allowing motor sport fans to walk the Albert Park track post-race. This decision, announced by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, marks a return to tradition after a ban was imposed last year due to a crowd invasion. The ban had been in place following an incident in 2023 where numerous fans accessed the track during the final moments of the race, reaching the stranded Haas car driven by Nico Hulkenberg. In preparation for the upcoming Formula One season-opener on March 16, the organisers have assured fans that a range of safety measures will be implemented.
Last year's Australian Grand Prix saw a record attendance of 452,055 spectators over its four-day race week, highlighting the event's popularity and the significance of fan engagement. The practice of allowing fans to walk along the track and approach drivers on the podium was halted last year, disappointing many. Travis Auld, the boss of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, expressed enthusiasm about restoring this experience.
