Hernan Dario Gomez Takes Helm as El Salvador’s New Manager

Hernan Dario Gomez, a seasoned Colombian coach, has been appointed as the new manager of El Salvador. The 69-year-old, affectionately known as "Bolillo," steps into the role following the dismissal of Spaniard David Doniga. Doniga, who was let go on Monday, had held the position for just over a year. With a wealth of World Cup experience under his belt, Gomez is tasked with leading El Salvador to what they hope will be their third World Cup appearance.

Gomez's extensive career includes notable achievements such as leading Panama to their first-ever World Cup in 2018. His experience spans across multiple national teams, having previously coached Colombia in the 1998 World Cup and Ecuador in 2002. Moreover, he served as the manager of Guatemala from 2006 to 2008 and most recently led Honduras from 2021 to 2022.

El Salvador currently sits third in Group F with four points from two matches in the second round stage. The hope is that Gomez's leadership will guide them to success in the upcoming World Cup, scheduled to take place next year in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

"I am very grateful and happy, hoping that we get the chance, I am fighting to go to (my) sixth World Cup. We are going to work hard and we are going to dream about it," – Hernan Dario Gomez

Gomez acknowledges the challenges ahead but remains optimistic. His vision for El Salvador is clear, aiming to leverage his extensive experience and strategic acumen to overcome any hurdles.

"It is not easy, but there has never been an easy thing, so we are going to work for that… I like a challenge and sometimes dreams come true." – Hernan Dario Gomez
