Meta Tests New Feature to Import Creators from X to Threads

Meta has already launched beta testing of a new feature that would allow parents to control their children’s use of its social media platform, Threads. This feature allows users to follow the same creators they follow on X, aiming to facilitate the migration of users and creators from X to Threads.

The new application features provides users with detailed, step-by-step guidance. It’s now super easy for them to download their following list from X and transfer it quickly over to Threads. By streamlining this process, Meta seeks to ease the transition for popular creators and their followers, who have increasingly turned to competing platforms like Threads and Bluesky due to dissatisfaction with X.

Security researcher and former Meta employee Jane Manchum Wong was the first to spot this new feature. She pointed out its promised ability to dramatically improve user experience. Additionally, the feature now spotlights popular creators. It’s not obvious how Meta links creators on X to their respective profiles on Threads. This ambiguity leaves some big questions hanging. This strategy can hamper the feature’s impact across all user use cases, possibly making some accounts that follow creators on X incompatible.

Meta did not respond to a request for comment about this feature after repeated queries from TechCrunch. Whether the feature is confusing or not, it is a fundamental component in Meta’s strategy north of the border. That’s how the company plans to attract more people to Threads, as creators continue to abandon X for other networks. Each of these creators have experienced tremendous damage to their followings while making their transitions.

This feature makes it easier than ever for new users to set up their accounts. More importantly, it increases user engagement and retention on Threads. It’s indicative of Meta’s continued need to build its user base and position itself competitively in a rapidly changing social media environment.
