South Korean Startup RLWRLD Secures $14.8 Million to Revolutionize Robotics

RLWRLD, a South Korean startup, has completed a successful seed round of about 21 billion KRW ($14.8 million). The company’s mission is to meet the complex challenge of creating foundational artificial intelligence (AI) models specifically designed for robotics. RLWRLD combines the latest, cutting-edge large language models with classical robotics software. This novel approach has put them on the cutting edge of the burgeoning robotics industry to great effect.

A collective of AI and robotics specialists established RLWRLD. As shown in their massive progress thus far in creating a truly foundational AI neural net model to apply to robotics. This paradigm maximizes the potential of robots. Perhaps most importantly, it frees them up to focus on automating activities previously thought to require human judgment. The firm delights in its retail direction of humanoid robots with outstanding very high DoF. This unique capability sets them apart from competitors who often use more limited, closed loop robotic architectures.

In a keynote presentation, the startup’s CEO, Jung-Hee Ryu, highlighted the strategic vision of the company.

“I determined that it would be strategically beneficial to prioritize robotics foundation models (RFM) over the technologically saturated field of LLMs, capitalizing on Korea and Japan’s notable global strengths in manufacturing,” – Jung-Hee Ryu.

Even with a small team of just 13 employees, RLWRLD is poised to begin bringing in revenue this year. Over the next few years, they’ll prove this through proof-of-concept (PoC) projects and collaboration demonstrations with their strategic partners. Ryu emphasized the positive impact and efficiency that their foundational model would have across multiple industries.

“Using RLWRLD’s foundation model, processes that require a lot of manual work can be completely automated by learning and copying human expertise, making work environments more efficient,” – Jung-Hee Ryu.

This unique provision goes a long way in overcoming a key barrier that has plagued the industry. Most companies today only rely on low-DoF robots like two-fingered grippers at best, limiting potential operational flexibility in multimodal settings. Ryu mentioned the key edge that RLWRLD has on these large companies.

“Additionally, such companies typically rely on low-DoF robots such as two-fingered grippers. RLWRLD has already secured a high-DoF reference robot, and therefore expects superior performance outcomes,” – Jung-Hee Ryu.
