Notion has just announced Notion Mail, an AI-powered email client built specifically for Gmail. When combined with Notion’s growing workflow management platform, it makes teams a lot more productive. The company released this new feature on Tuesday, aiming to redefine how users manage their email by allowing them to create a customized inbox tailored to their specific needs.
Notion Mail is designed to put you in control. It allows them to sort and filter their inbox so that it reflects their needs and desires. Innovative by design, the new email client is different from legacy solutions, which tend to prioritize tools for composing emails over their core functionality. Notion Mail is built on top of Skiff — a collaboration platform widely recognized for its end-to-end encrypted infrastructure. Notion acquired Skiff in 2024 for an undisclosed sum.
Jason Ginsberg, one of the engineers who helped to create Notion Mail, shared what’s unique about this new tool. He noted that the majority of current innovations are aimed at the writing process. Notion Mail is focused on building a private, custom inbox experience.
“The way we built Notion Mail is almost down to the building blocks, or the fundamentals of how email works,” – Jason Ginsberg
Notion Mail supports inbox segmentation too, letting you split your inbox across various “views” or folders, so it’s easier to stay organized. This new feature uses the power of Notion AI to automatically categorize your emails. Next, it intelligently organizes them into topic-specific priority inboxes. This feature makes it easier to keep on top of important email conversations and makes it a lot less work to deal with a busy inbox.
Beyond just helping to tidy-up one’s inbox, Notion Mail deepens integration with other Notion offerings. For example, if people in an email thread agree to have a meeting, Notion’s AI goes to work. By cross-referencing the user’s calendar, it automatically proposes available times, taking the hassle out of scheduling.
Notion Mail has a built-in shortcut for capturing customer feedback from beta customers. This makes it much easier for user insights to be baked into their workflows.
The new email client is available to download for free, but with significant monthly limits on usage. If you’re looking for unlimited customization, subscribe to the paid tier. If you’re familiar with Notion, signing up and linking your Gmail address can’t be easier. In doing so, you gain access to Notion Mail’s sophisticated email functionalities including email organization, smart reply drafting, auto meeting scheduling, and message searching.
The email ãI space is becoming increasingly crowded as companies work to bring value added experience to the end user with AI. In this competitive landscape, Notion Mail’s unique differentiator is its focus on tailored organization over speed.
“The big change there is it’s no longer feeling like a burden where you are going through the same never-ending list, one-size-fits-all inbox and manually triaging emails. Our focus is not to have you work faster in the old way of things. It’s really a new way and a new approach.” – Jason Ginsberg
