As we recently reported, Meta has formally rolled out Edits, a new video creation application meant to compete with big players such as CapCut. Their new app puts creators in the driver’s seat. Most importantly, it gives them the tools and resources to create professional quality videos specific to each social media platform. Meta had previously announced the creation of the global rollout back in January. This follows CapCut being mysteriously removed from U.S. app stores due to TikTok’s perennial regulatory headwinds.
Edits has a number of unique features that make it unlike any other video editing app. Our favorite part, “Ideas,” lets creators plan out their ideas before jumping into videos, helping improve the creative process. Besides this, the new “Projects” tool allows users to easily track, arrange and edit all of their different video creations in one hub.
The Timeline feature allows for better organization and rearranging of clips to create or change projects easily. Creators can now use “Keyframes” to edit to particular frames within their videos. This feature is useful for them to change the position, rotation or scale of clips. With this flexibility, we hope to appeal to more casual users, as well as advanced creators seeking fine-tuned control over their video content.
Additionally, Edits makes it simple to share right to Instagram or Facebook to help creators get content in front of their followers faster and with less friction. You can export videos produced with Edits without Edits watermarks. This functionality provides a huge production benefit for creators looking to produce their most polished work without branding distractions.
Meta’s head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, teased further expansions of Edits in future releases. He acknowledged that eventual iterations of the app could involve some paid features. In addition to ensuring a better experience for users, these upgrades can provide additional functionalities.
Aisha Malik, consumer news reporter at TechCrunch, welcomed the launch. Wise emphasized the strategic timing of Edits’ debut, especially given new market shifts.
“Meta aims to capture a segment of the video editing market that has expanded rapidly with the rise of short-form content,” – Aisha Malik, TechCrunch.
