Just last month, a new app was released to assist people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). More importantly, it helps them overcome their time management hurdles. Erik MacInnis of Macaulay Library fame made this killer app. It takes a gamified approach to encourage users to arrive on time and complete their day-to-day tasks with improved efficiency.
The app features a point reward system that categorizes tasks into four difficulty levels: “Goldfish,” “Coffee,” “Grown Up,” and “Yoda.” The Goldfish level, the app’s simplest level, provides an easy introduction to the mechanics of the app. The highest level, “Yoda,” penalizes two points for every late submission, which would make that a killer option! The intention of this infrastructure is to encourage consumers to do fundamental home tasks and be more active in their day-to-day routines.
Recently, not only does Lately help you focus on what’s next, but it actually helps you travel more effectively as well. The app tells you when to leave for a trip. You’ll receive reminders 30, 10, and 5 minutes before your scheduled departure. This feature is especially useful for those with time blindness, such as people with ADHD, who have a difficulty estimating how long something will take.
“For many of us, our toughest challenges to leaving on time are time blindness and poor time estimation. Lately addresses both of these problems by keeping the user constantly aware of when to leave, and it’s gamified, so you get points when you arrive on time, which honestly feels good.” – Erik MacInnis
Users earn points by completing tasks related to their life and work. They can then redeem these points however they want to personalize their virtual pets in the app. This interactive component adds an element of fun and encourages positive behavior in time management.
As Lately is free, it can be used by anyone all around the world. It does provide a premium subscription alternative at $3 per month or $10 annually. The premium features allow you to adjust difficulty levels and plan trips on a recurring basis. This flexibility gives users the power to improve their time management skills even more.
Lately will be releasing an innovative new social collaboration feature. This new feature will auto-notify friends when users leave for their destination, when they’re just five minutes away, and when they’ve arrived. This new requirement is to emphasize the social nature of planning and the importance of arriving on time.
“I’ve always been the ‘late one’ in my friend group,” – Erik MacInnis
