UK Startup Dex Secures Funding to Revolutionize Recruitment with AI Technology

UK-based startup Dex is bringing a new style to the recruitment floor. They raised $3.1 million earlier this summer in a pre-seed funding round, led by a16z’s Speedrun fund and Concept Ventures. Dex was started by Chief Technology Officer Harry Uglow and Chief Executive Officer Paddy Lambros. They currently bill themselves as the “1st AI voice talent agent,” but their mission is to change the way candidates connect with hiring managers.

Powered by the latest generative AI, Dex uses conversational AI to connect candidates and hiring managers in dynamic, virtual discussions. Through this unique method, it can better understand what the definition of a great candidate fit looks like. Uglow noted, “Dex speaks with hiring managers and candidates to deeply understand what a great fit looks like.” Through direct engagement and consultation with both parties, the platform will better be able to address mutual recruitment needs.

In creating its technology, Dex spoke to over 50 of the UK’s leading recruitment experts. In the process, they developed significant knowledge about their own methodologies and what appeals to them. Work4 provides more than a simple job matching platform. It doesn’t stop there – it hands-on-sorts with candidates over the phone, harvesting rich information about their experience, skillsets, and goals. Lambros emphasized the importance of understanding individual needs: “Dex talks through what you want — your preferences and needs — and asks questions to deeply understand your experience and skills.”

>Dex is able to leverage massive public datasets. It scrapes thousands of interviews and call transcripts to build a detailed map of the new job market. It can help you spot the most relevant opportunities for candidates. They do it without asking for the classic application materials that often include CVs and cover letters. When an appropriate match is identified, Dex automatically and discreetly connects candidates with hiring managers.

Lambros articulated the company’s vision for recruitment: “Hiring isn’t about filling seats — it’s about creating lasting partnerships that benefit employees and companies.” Dex’s philosophy is evident in the way that he guides candidates in deciding their next moves strategically. He coaches them through interviews and helps them negotiate job offers.

Dex has already attracted interest from some of the UK’s leading tech firms, as well as two other well-known UK unicorns. Such backing has peaked the interest of more than UK tech companies. For now, the platform is in closed beta. The team is currently working on polishing the various features with an eye to making a wider launch later this year. Uglow stated, “We’re constantly evaluating and changing providers to ensure that we are able to benefit from the latest advancements.” This level of adaptability reflects Dex’s dedication to ensuring your organization has the most innovative recruitment solution available.

Dex is more than just personalized matchmaking. It further provides you with constantly updated information on new online jobs available, notifying you as soon as jobs in your field are posted. This feature significantly reduces the time candidates spend searching for jobs. Lambros pointed out, “We believe candidates don’t want to trawl through hundreds of generic job advertisements, so Dex does the searching for you, saving you hours of scrolling, researching, and then admin applying.”

The recruitment industry is dynamic to say the least. Dex is committed to attracting and keeping great talent and giving employees the freedom to find truly meaningful work. Dex uses leading-edge technology and builds dynamic partnerships. This uniquely positions the company to create a huge step change in the UK’s approach to recruitment.
