Eight countries have already booked their tickets to the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. Even more will qualify, with four additional teams earning their spots through qualifiers set for next year. The tournament will start on June 12 and run for 24 days, with a total of 33 matches played.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) just picked seven venues to stage the vastly expanded 12-team tournament. Other impressive venues such as the world-famous Lord’s in London—where the final will be played—add to that expectation. Confirmed venues are Old Trafford in Manchester and Headingley in Leeds. You can spot Edgbaston in Birmingham, Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, The Oval in London and Bristol County Ground in Bristol.
ECB Chief Executive Officer Richard Gould expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament to be held in England. He noted its promise to highlight women’s cricket to a global audience. He explained the significance of featuring so many iconic locations in drawing attention to the growing global appeal of women’s cricket. This represents a tremendous, enthusiastic investment in the integrity of delivering a world-class competition.
The tournament’s structure aims to not only promote competitive play but to engage fans and inspire future generations of female cricketers. As well as growing the fanbase of women’s cricket globally, the format will allow for increased participation and engagement at local and community levels.
With one year to go, teams will begin intensive training courses, hoping to earn a spot through qualifying rounds. Increasing the size of the tournament field by just four more teams will significantly increase diversity in the Big Dance. This will truly enhance the competition to the next level!
