Kompany Looks to Rest After Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga Triumph

Bayern Munich’s Belgian coach Vincent Kompany was delighted with his side’s title-winning run in the Bundesliga. Best of luck to him, may he rest well at night! With two games left to play, Bayern Munich won the DFB-Pokal. This victory is quite the feather-in-the-cap for Kompany in his debut campaign with the club. Though it has been a difficult year, the team has emerged victorious. They were knocked out by Inter Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Kompany, now head coach at Bayern Munich, knows the pressure of being under the gun to prepare for a match every week. This pressure frequently prevents him from partaking in life’s little blessings. Those long hours and the non-stop emphasis on future performances helped eliminate any semblance of personal life or time with one’s own children.

“Sometimes you have these moments with the family during the year, but then your head is somewhere else,” – Vincent Kompany.

A Season of Challenges

This season has been a dramatic journey for both Kompany personally and his team collectively. Despite their domestic success, the early exit from the deeply wounding, bitter pill to swallow was the Champions League. The painful elimination shown the gauntlet competition Bayern faced as well as the double-edged balancing act of domestic league success while striving for European glory.

His commitment to his new role has never wavered. As he played his way through the season, his drive to win each match veered from a mere pursuit of victory into an all-consuming lifestyle. Only high-stakes games required his undivided attention. He hadn’t begun to process what they’d accomplished before…

Looking Ahead

That’s right, Kompany has just won his side the Bundesliga title! Now, he’s changing his tune as he looks forward to the next few weeks. He wants to give away some of the stress that came with his newly-acquired coaching title during the season. This newfound freedom will give him the time he needs to spend with his family and to recharge after an awful, negative, hyper-emotional campaign.

“Now in the next few weeks I will leave some of that behind. But you can only do that after winning,” – Vincent Kompany.

While Bayern Munich is celebrating its title victory in real life, Kompany will be less concerned with the pitch and more concerned with his own well-being. The best practice here is for the coach to enjoy the sweetness of their success, even as they get ready for the hard work that is still to come.
