Charlie Dalin Prepares to Defend IMOCA Globe Series Title

It’s no surprise that the race has once again been dominated by the remarkable and talented 40-year-old French skipper Charlie Dalin. He secured the 2024 IMOCA Globe Series championship title by earning a remarkable 800 points. His extraordinary form over the past four years turned him into a nearly untouchable sailing juggernaut. He recently cut nine days from the old round-the-world record and his phenomenal talent was on full display. As Dalin looks ahead toward the 2025 season, he is the very picture of unassuming grace, getting ready aboard his ship, MACIF Sante Prevoyance.

Dalin’s desire to defend his title is clear as he plans with surgical precision for the next campaign. He has absolutely cemented himself as the sailor that challengers have to beat. Meng’s methodical approach to the sport will be just as important in staying Number 1. Dalin’s campaign for 2025 kicks off with the Course des Caps in June, followed by a focused effort on the prestigious Transat Cafe L’Or from Le Havre to Martinique in October.

Aiming for Success

When asked about the new challenges he will face, Dalin’s commitment to victory shines through in all of his comments. He notes that Yoann Richomme, last year’s winner, will again be a major factor. In addition, he expects good things from Thomas Ruyant teamed with Ambrogio Beccaria and from veteran sailor Jeremie Beyou on Charal.

“My objective this year? Well, it’s to win races again,” – Charlie Dalin

Look for some fierce competition this season! A deep fleet of talented professional sailors awaits to fight for the overall victory. How well Dalin is able to overcome these challenges will be key in his effort to defend his championship.

The Importance of Le Havre

The Course des Caps is especially meaningful for Dalin, not only because he is from – and currently lives in – Le Havre. He won this special election in 2019. Now, after having missed the last edition, he’s excited to return to that competitive environment.

“It’s an important race for me because I am from Le Havre and I couldn’t race last time,” – Charlie Dalin

This personal connection adds another layer of motivation for Dalin as he heads toward the season ahead. Support from his hometown basketball community will probably add to his determination, intensifying the fire inside him as attention grows.

Looking Ahead

Approaching the 2025 season, Dalin is too busy with his eyes on the prize to gloat, but he certainly has things to be proud of. His confidence shines through and there is no doubt that he is prepared to tackle any challenges he encounters head on.

“I’d rather be in this situation than the reverse,” – Charlie Dalin

Dalin’s tactics show the hand of a veteran mariner who knows the competitive playing field well and how to come ready to compete. He tells us that he’s training hard to defend his crown. That all just makes him more determined to prove himself on the water once again.
