Gonzalez Extends Contract with Gotham FC Through 2027

Esther Gonzalez is the National Women’s Soccer League’s top scorer. Additionally, she’s made a long-term commitment to Gotham FC by signing an extension with the club through the 2027 season. The 32-year-old forward has been central to the New Jersey/New York area’s premier team’s attacking strategy. She has become the club’s latest signing in 2023, having celebrated a triumphant summer of success with Spain at the Women’s World Cup.

Gonzalez has made a much more immediate impact this season, topping the league with seven goals in just nine matches. Her reliable play has been critical for Gotham FC, made more important following the sudden departure of several key players. The defense on the whole, the team was able to overcome the turnover by establishing a more disciplined style of play. Gonzalez has wholeheartedly adopted this tact.

In her initial season with Gotham FC, Gonzalez not only showcased her scoring prowess but evolved as a player. She was thankful for the work the club helped her do to grow. She explained that her time at Gotham FC has helped her become a “more complete” player.

As she explains, the expertise it provides the team to address challenges—especially those faced off the field—is invaluable.

Looking back on her experience with Gotham FC, Gonzalez made sure to credit the team-focused work that went into the club’s successes. She noted, “The X-factor has sort of been the team. Everything is down to the team and the hard work the team’s been doing. There’s been a mountain of work behind it all.”
