Founded by Joshua Aviv in 2018, SparkCharge has made a splash in their short time in the industry. With this robust funding, they are well-positioned to disrupt fleet electrification and yield cleaner air in communities nationwide. Monte’s Fam, who is leading this funding round, is joined by Cleveland Avenue, Collab Capital, Elemental Impact, MarcyPen and Non-sibi Ventures. This investment will help the company enhance its mission to provide flexible depot and public charging solutions for EV fleets throughout North America.
Since joining T4America’s Accelerator program, SparkCharge has further accelerated its progress, taking its services nationwide across all 50 states as well as Canada and Mexico. Through a unique subscription model, the company gives customers access to electric vehicles while handling the charging process for customers with SparkCharge. Aviv emphasizes the importance of this service model, stating, “Hey, the cars are here. They’re sitting on the lot. We’ve got no way to service them, no way to charge them. Can you guys help us out?”
SparkCharge focuses on off-grid chargers, an innovation that has turned out to be immensely successful with their customer base. In reality, 95% of SparkCharge’s customers use these off-grid solutions. We personalize charging costs for each customer depending on the size of their fleet. They are usually between 35 cents and 60 cents per kilowatt-hour. This usage-based pricing model means customers only pay for what they need, unlocking more operational efficiency.
“If a fleet uses 1,000 kilowatt-hours, then they only pay for that 1,000 kilowatt-hours. If they only use five kilowatt-hours, they only pay for five kilowatt-hours,” Aviv explained. This flexibility is a tremendous boon to the fleets that operate around the clock. That’s because they’re extremely flexible in how, when, and where they charge.
Having originally provided mobile EV charging services on-demand, the company has recently teamed up with AllState to help stranded electric vehicle drivers. Aviv observed that fleets have been knocking down his door in search of dependable charging solutions. “Usually these operations are happening 24/7. They want to get these cars charged, but back out on the road,” he remarked.
The cool thing about SparkCharge’s solution is it makes fleets much nimbler and more flexible in their charging strategies. “It allows the fleet to really be nimble and flexible with how they’re charging their cars. If they see a big uptick, then that’s fine, right? They’re covered. If they have a low season, that’s fine. They’re covered,” Aviv added.
