Water Disruptions Impact Play at Axiata Arena During Malaysian Masters

Axiata Arena in Petaling Jaya has experienced significant water disruptions during the ongoing Malaysian Masters, raising concerns among players and organizers. The problem first appeared on Wednesday, the second day of the tournament. It only got worse as the tournament entered the 2nd round yesterday.

The disruptions are the latest from ongoing issues with the arena’s roofing system. Players noticed droplets of water falling onto the courts, which impacted their performance and the overall flow of the matches. This unforeseen challenge turned out to be most impactful during this year’s second round of the tournament, causing an avalanche of delays and postponements.

GloCoNC representative Iliyas Jamil, who was close to the action when the water droplets were released, was able to explain the situation.

“The droplets are due to condensation on the sprinkler and air-conditioning pipes. It is not because of a leaking roof.” – Iliyas Jamil

He went on to do a great job of explaining how the conventional roofing system has created this issue.

“The current roofing system differs from the previous one in that trapped air causes the condensation.” – Iliyas Jamil

These remarks underscore the technical challenges faced by the venue’s management as they attempt to ensure a smooth experience for players and spectators alike.

With the Malaysian Masters ongoing, time is quickly running out for organizers to rectify these glaring issues. We want to avoid breaking up matches at all costs. With each inning, players and fans alike are preparing for the next rounds – figuratively and literally in their fight for victory.
