China proved its badminton dominance by winning four of five titles at last week’s Malaysian Masters. The competition this weekend put the raw talents of Chinese players in various categories on full display. This event goes a long way towards solidifying their position as front-runners in this sport.
In the women’s singles final, Wang Zhiyi successfully defeated her compatriot Han Yue to win the title. After losing the opener 13-21, Wang came back to pull out the victory in two closely contested sets, 21-13, 21-18. This victory was an important milestone for Wang, who has been turning heads all season on the badminton circuit.
China’s dominance extended to the men’s singles event, where Li Shifeng triumphed over India’s K. Srikanth. Li, on fire throughout the tournament, showed it again in the final, crushing Srikanth 21-11, 21-9 to take gold. His victory brought him glory and underscored China’s overwhelming dominance in men’s badminton.
In the women’s doubles section, Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning won the title. They made that history by beating Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian. The championship final was the tightest of the day, but in the end, Liu and Tan were able to come away with the win 21-17, 21-18. Their collaboration and synergy on the court, obvious all night, propelled them to this elite title.
Chinese players excelled at the mixed doubles event! Non-TPR pairs Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping took out Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin in an excellent performance. The last championship match became a hard-fought slugfest. In the final, Feng and Huang emerged victorious with a score of 21-17, 14-21, 21-16.
