Zaniolo Addresses Allegations of Physical Altercation with Youth Players

Professional soccer player Nicolo Zaniolo, 25, seen here competing for Spain, is on loan at Fiorentina from Turkish club Galatasaray. He expressed his fury on social media after players from AS Roma’s Primavera squad were allegedly involved in a physical confrontation. The act allegedly occurred on Monday. On Tuesday, Zaniolo released a statement on Instagram, denying any accusations of physical violence and apologizing for what happened.

Zaniolo himself later acknowledged a meeting occurred. He stressed that it never went to the level of physical violence. He stated, “I would like to point out that the facts are far removed from what has been reconstructed and that on my part, apart from a verbal argument, there was no physically aggressive behaviour.”

The fuss started once AS Roma posted an official statement Monday night shaking down exactly what had went down. As per their report, Zaniolo supposedly stormed into the Primavera squad dressing room post-match. He showed a pattern of predatory behavior toward many of the young players. This forced an immediate counter-attack and created fear and instability in the club itself.

Zaniolo acknowledged his reaction during the incident, asserting, “I want to apologise from the bottom of my heart for what happened yesterday. I know I reacted badly and I take responsibility for it.” He elaborated on his intentions, stating, “I went there with the only intention of giving a positive message… Unfortunately, I was verbally provoked by a boy and, mistakenly, I lost my temper.”

Not to mention the media uproar accompanying the incident. Stories focus on the claims made against Zaniolo and his emphatic – and brazenly arrogant – rebuttal. Shifa Jahan wrote about the developing story from Bengaluru, and Ed Osmond edited this report.
