Anduril Expands Capabilities with Acquisition of Klas and New Product Launch

Anduril Industries announced the acquisition of Klas, a Dublin-based technology firm, on Monday. This acquisition strategically positions Anduril to further develop capabilities in the defense space, especially in the area of real-time edge computing. The combined companies’ acquisition is still pending regulatory approval. This major move sends Anduril even further down the field as it races to create cutting-edge military technology.

Klas is home to a strong core of about 150 sharp and friendly staffers. They are known for their flagship product, Voyager, family of ruggedized compute and networking systems. Anduril has embedded Klas’ technology into its Menace line of command center products made to enhance tactical operations. The financial terms of the acquisition have not been released.

Related to its latest acquisition announcement, Anduril has recently introduced a new product – Menace-T. This smaller mobile, C4 system is primarily meant for use at the tactical edge. It easily fits into two carry-on cases, allowing for quick transport and set-up by a single person in only minutes. The launch of Menace-T shows Anduril’s continued focus on creating pioneering solutions that address the dynamic requirements of disruption-focused military operations.

“The technology and products from Klas have many use cases: military, national security, law enforcement, autonomy and more. Anduril, together with our partners, will continue to support customers with a wide array of use cases,” – Tom Keane, SVP of Engineering.

Klas’ tech work is coming at a particularly opportune time for Anduril. Earlier this year, Anduril wrested away the much-maligned Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) contract. The IVAS program now has a shocking initial budget of $21.9 billion. Its aim is to provide soldiers with the world’s most advanced augmented reality capabilities. Anduril’s teaming agreement with Microsoft on this effort is notable, particularly as Microsoft continues its contentious role as a cloud partner for the project.

“There are scenarios where those soldiers need to communicate with the tactical edge to send data, to receive data, to task autonomous systems, and that’s a place where the Klas technology can help,” – Tom Keane.

Anduril is deeply engaged in shoring up its technological advantages across all defense applications. The recent acquisition of Klas and the launch of Menace-T showcase these efforts. By tapping Klas’ deep specialized expertise and innovative products, Anduril can further entrench its position in the complex and emerging defense technology market.
