Apple Enhances AirPods Max with Lossless and Ultra-Low Latency Audio

Apple will soon make music sound even better on AirPods Max, at least once the new firmware update rolls out. We expect that update to be released in April. It’s due to land shortly alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4, ushering in some major new features. Now, the AirPods Max with USB-C ushers in lossless audio and even more ultra-low latency prowess. All together, these features will make listening and production experiences better than ever for users.

The biggest feature improvement in this update is lossless audio support with AirPods Max (USB-C version). With this capability, the headphones are capable of lossless audio playback at 24-bit, 48 kHz, delivering music just like the original recording intended it to sound. If you’re a music lover, you’ll love being able to stream more than 100 million songs in lossless audio on Apple Music. Plus, Personalized Spatial Audio will take this even further, providing a sonically accurate, uncompressed and immersive aural experience.

Beyond lossless audio up to 24-bit/192kHz sample rate support, ultra-low latency audio will only be featured on AirPods Max with USB-C. This exclusive feature is a godsend to the gaming community. Lag time is a thing of the past, offering an immersive and lightning-fast gaming experience. Musicians and producers alike will welcome this helpful update. It allows them to play, compose and remix music with the help of Personalized Spatial Audio and head tracking capabilities.

To be clear, these audio improvements are only available on AirPods Max with USB-C. Apple Lightning version AirPods Max users will be excluded from this update. This amendment would draw more attention to the innovative technology that is featured in the new USB-C model.
