Arrest of Bangladeshi National in Mumbai Sparks Debate on Border Security

Illegal migration in India has once again captured national attention following the arrest of a suspect on the outskirts of Mumbai. The detained individual, initially identified as Vijay Das, is believed to be a Bangladeshi national named Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad. Authorities apprehended Shahzad, who reportedly entered India 5-6 months ago and found employment with a housekeeping agency. "We are suffering illegal migration in this country of millions. If we go to count the number … mind-boggling. Illegal migration has to be dealt with, but it developed … without even a token of resistance. It’s a problem we will have to handle because it has taken the shape of unmanageable dimensions," said India’s Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The suspect's true identity was not immediately apparent at the time of his arrest, raising questions about the effectiveness of current identification and monitoring systems for migrants.
