Indian autonomous mobile robots (AMR) startup, Ati Motors, has successfully raised $20 million in an all-equity Series B funding round. Co-led by Walden Catalyst Ventures and NGP Capital, this new influx of capital promises to accelerate Ati Motors' expansion in North America and further solidify its position in the robotics industry. Founded in February 2017, the Bengaluru-based company has made significant strides since introducing its first tugging robot. Today, Ati Motors boasts a lineup of seven distinct robots, two of which are currently undergoing testing and slated for release this quarter.
Ati Motors' state-of-the-art manufacturing and research & development facility in Bengaluru has been instrumental in the development of their robots. The company's Sherpa robots are already operational, with hundreds deployed across 40 manufacturers. Notable clients include global giants such as Airbus, Ceat Tyres, Forvia, Hyundai, Samsung, and TVS Motor. These robots are equipped with advanced 3D lidar sensors, ensuring spatial awareness and precision.
The company prides itself on designing both the software and hardware components of its robots in-house, notably their sensor-fusion algorithms. Ati Motors relies on Nvidia's Jetson platform for edge computing capabilities, enhancing the performance of its AMRs. Saurabh Chandra, founder and CEO of Ati Motors, emphasized the company's unique approach, stating:
“That has been our USP that we are able to do complete multi-disciplinary engineering.” – Saurabh Chandra, founder and CEO of Ati Motors.
Ati Motors has carved a niche in the automobile sector, with 80% of its clientele belonging to this industry. The U.S. market plays a pivotal role in the company's revenue stream, driving the decision to bolster their presence in Detroit. According to Chandra, Ati Motors views its primary competition as maintaining the status quo rather than competing against other robotics companies.
“Our competitor is always the status quo, not really another robot.” – Saurabh Chandra, founder and CEO of Ati Motors.
