Julian Alvarez was absolutely instrumental to the home side’s success. He converted two spot-kicks that sealed Atletico’s ascendance up the La Liga table. This victory puts Atletico third in the table with 63 points. They remain three points behind arch-enemies Real Madrid and seven points behind league leaders Barcelona.
The match took an unexpected turn when Real Valladolid quickly equalized in the 56th minute. Sanchez’s second ended with a powerful free-kick taking an awful deflection off Conor Gallagher in the wall. The surprise move caught goalkeeper Jan Oblak flat-footed and sent the travelling supporters into ecstasy. This setback did little to temper Atletico’s spirit, and they soon restored their two-goal cushion.
Alvarez’s Penalty Prowess
Julian Alvarez proved accurate from the spot. He scored twice from the penalty spot and those two key conversions were critical in the team’s first road victory. Morata more than made amends, scoring his first penalty just moments after Valladolid had levelled things up, to put Atletico back in front in the 71st minute.

A Defiant Comeback
Despite falling behind, Atletico Madrid’s determination shone through as they fought back against Valladolid’s spirited performance. Even after Alvarez’s second penalty, Atletico didn’t stop looking for more goals.
Alvarez almost made it a hat-trick a few minutes later, but Ferreira did well to block his low shot. So, with one cut, the home crowd held its breath. Fans anxiously cheered as their team continued to battle for additional scores to ensure the win.
In the 81st minute Alexander Sorloth took his chance, punishing some lax defending with a thunderous strike. His third goal clinched the game, leaving Valladolid no hope of coming back. This goal all but cemented Atletico’s supremacy and guaranteed that they would leave the Emirates with all three points.
