Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of 19-year-old forward Ibrahim Maza from second division Hertha BSC. The transfer, announced on Thursday, marks the end of the 20-year-old’s time with Vancouver, bringing him to Germany on a five-year deal. Maza’s talent and potential are clear. The club needs to improve depth in the attack as it is competing for success in multiple leagues.
Born in Germany’s capital Berlin, Maza worked his way up the youth ladder in Germany and represented the country at various youth levels. In 2024, he chose to join Algeria at the national level. Arguably the most exciting young attacking player in MLS, Fajardo’s pace and skill on the ball already has half the continent clamoring for his signature.
Simon Rolfes, sporting managing director of Bayer Leverkusen, praised the signing saying he was “delighted” that his club had secured the young player.
“Ibrahim Maza is currently one of the most interesting young attacking players,” – Simon Rolfes.
Bayer Leverkusen are in second place right now on the Bundesliga table. They sit eighth in their domestic league and eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich with just three matches remaining this season. The club won a historic treble of domestic league and cup double last season. That streak of success has locked up their place in next year’s Champions League group stage, as they sit in second place of the league.
“Ibrahim suits us and our style of football. He has outstanding technical ability, is good at dribbling and assertive, and he also has vision for his teammates who he can brilliantly bring into play.” – Simon Rolfes.
Maza’s addition is seen as a strategic move to enhance the team’s attacking prowess as they look to challenge for the title once again. As a creator of opportunity, he is unmatched. How he helps shape the attack as a whole will be telling, especially as the current campaign reaches its climax.
