Celebrating the Arts at the 30th Sibiu International Theatre Festival

The Sibiu International Theatre Festival is back with its 30th edition, from June 23rd to July 2nd, 2023. This award-winning cultural affair features an electric mix of world-class performances that honor the vibrancy of creating in theatre, dance, and music. Hundreds of visual and musical performances enliven the lovely city of Sibiu, Romania. Residents and international visitors alike can explore a creative, kaleidoscopic world that lies just below the surface!

Each year during the ten-day festival, the festival takes over theaters, galleries, art spaces and more to put artists’ creativity front and center. The festival stretches across dozens of theatres, churches and historical buildings, making a dramatic and evocative setting for each show. Notably, a quarter of the performances occur outdoors, allowing spectators to enjoy art in the open air against the city’s beautiful architecture.

This year’s festival features a diverse lineup of performances, including an exciting show by the artists of the Vienna theatre presenting “Dorian Gray.” With its compelling, social justice-oriented story and stunning artistic vision, this adaptation is sure to captivate audiences. We are completely mesmerized by Compagnie Off from France’s gorgeous performance. They feature these gigantic chakras of illumination that reach seven meters in the sky. When these brightly aglow edifices cruise down the avenue at night, lighting up the mood as they dance through the crowd, it’s enchanting.

At the same time, Japanese and Chinese companies wow audiences with dazzling examples of traditional and new theatrical art forms.
