Djokovic Dominates First Round at French Open in Quest for 25th Title

Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis star and sixth seed, began his campaign for a record 25th Grand Slam title with a commanding victory over Mackenzie McDonald at the French Open. The final match, played on the Philippe Chatrier court, was won by a stunning margin of 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. It was Djokovic’s first step toward an impact career-defining if he can add to his foray into infallibility achievements.

At 38 years old, Djokovic is still showing us that age is merely a statistic. He’s even perfect (21-0) in first-round matches there, his 24-hole aggregation of top-10 talents decidedly not leaving him shake-able come dueling days. Since 2010 he’s lost just one opening match in Paris. This impressive streak serves only to underscore his aforementioned dominance on the clay courts of Roland Garros.

Recent Success

This triumph comes after Djokovic’s other recent victory at the Geneva Open. There, he marked that milestone in style by winning his historic 100th career title. His wins or the above-mentioned stock McDonald show an advantage of a return to form after separating from his longtime conditioning coach. The win not only served as a great start to the tournament, but it solidified his dreams for more glory down the road.

Djokovic was beset by disruptions from wind and rain, which caused the roof over the court to close. Even after facing these obstacles, he was able to remain calm and collected for the entire round. He did so again in the 3rd, breaking McDonald at 2-2 in that set. His third win match point came when McDonald hit a backhand return into the net.

“It is great to return here a year later. I don’t know how many future Grand slams I have left in my hands but this is special,” – Novak Djokovic

Looking Ahead

I can be happy with the performance, although deep down I know that I can go to a higher level,” said Djokovic. His motivation is at an all-time high as he hopes to make history at this year’s tournament.

“I feel good and here even better because I can relive the Olympic Games here. Today it was a solid match throughout all three sets. I know I can play at a better level than today but I am satisfied. There is the chance to make further history and that is the biggest motivation to work, improve and be here,” – Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is continuing his march through the tournament. His goal is to use the experience and skill he’s gained over the years to make it through all the rounds. Only the illusion of recent successes fuels his unwavering optimism and determination. He still stands a mighty 9/2 second favourite in the quest for his 25th Grand Slam haar.
