Eddie Murphy is making waves in the entertainment industry with his upcoming projects. The celebrated actor will lend his voice to the beloved character Donkey in the anticipated film Shrek 5, which is slated for release in 2026. In addition, Murphy is set to star in the action-comedy Blue Falcon, where he will portray a retired superspy attending his estranged son's destination wedding, only to find himself in close quarters with an archrival.
Last year, Murphy reprised his iconic role as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. This project took three decades to materialize, as Murphy sought a storyline that offered character evolution rather than a generic plot. He expressed his dissatisfaction with previous scripts, citing a lack of development for Axel Foley's character.
"The reason why the movie didn't come together for years and years and years is because, in all the scripts that I read, there was no evolution. It was just, 'Axel's coming back now, and he's on a new mission'." – Eddie Murphy
Murphy explained that the film eventually captured his interest when the storyline included elements of personal struggle. The plot revolves around Axel's estrangement from his daughter, Jane Saunders, played by Taylour Paige. Behind the scenes, the character's return to Beverly Hills is driven by a desire to mend his fractured family ties.
"Once they added the element where Axel was married, and he's not with his wife anymore, and they have a child and he's estranged from his child, and he's still in this job and all of his contemporaries are leaving… All he's got is his job, and he's got this horrible relationship." – Eddie Murphy
Blue Falcon promises to be an exciting addition to Murphy's filmography. The 63-year-old actor will share the screen in this two-hander film with a script penned by Chad St. John, known for London Has Fallen. Murphy will produce the picture under his Eddie Murphy Productions banner, alongside Charisse Hewitt-Webster and John Davis through Davis Films, and Cliff Roberts of Syndicate Entertainment.
Murphy continues to keep himself busy with various projects. Aside from producing Coming 2 America, he is working on a new script for another movie, showcasing his multifaceted talents in the industry.
