Facebook’s 30-Day Limit: New Changes to Live Video Storage

Facebook has announced a significant change in its live video storage policy, stating that live videos will now only remain on the platform for 30 days. This update, effective starting Wednesday, aims to align with industry standards and enhance the live video experience on Facebook. Users will receive notifications 90 days before their live videos are slated for deletion, providing ample time to decide the fate of their content.

Regular streamers on Facebook will have their live videos stored for 14 days, while Twitch Partners, Affiliates, and Prime streamers will enjoy a 60-day storage period for their past broadcasts. A key aspect of this change is Facebook's encouragement for users to convert their beloved live video moments into reels, a feature that allows these videos to remain on their pages.

Users can either download their live videos before deletion or transfer them to cloud storage services such as Dropbox or Google Drive. Additionally, there is an option to defer the deletion process for up to six months, offering flexibility for users who need more time.

"These changes will align our storage policies with industry standards and help ensure we are providing the most up-to-date live video experiences for everyone on Facebook."

In contrast to Facebook's new policy, YouTube continues to store live broadcasts indefinitely by converting them into regular videos. This difference highlights Facebook's strategy to promote its reels feature as an alternative for preserving live video content.

The decision to limit live video storage comes as Facebook seeks to streamline its services while encouraging users to engage more with its reels feature. As a part of the transition, all live videos older than 30 days will be removed from the platform.
