Father and Son Arrested in Connection with Police Officer’s Murder in South Cotabato

On May 28, 2025, federal authorities arrested Vincent Dalanon Sr., 54, and his son, Vincent Dalanon Jr., 29. They are charged with the killing of Police Executive Master Sergeant Geoffrey Angub which occurred in Barangay Kalawag II, Philippines. Witnesses pointed to the vehicular attack perpetrated by the father-son duo as the cause of the tragedy. Just 24 hours before, on Tuesday night, Angub himself was killed in a shooting after leaving work and walking home.

Engaged in the construction industry, the Dalanons hail from the town’s Barangay Kalawag. They gave up to police in Barangay Sulit, Polomolok, South Cotabato, after sensing that police were closing in on them. Colonel Julius Malcontento, police chief of Isulan, confirmed their arrest. The Fugitive Task Force operation that resulted in the suspects’ arrest occurred early Wednesday morning.

Angub, 46, was shot and killed in what law enforcement investigators have determined was a targeted ambush. Eyewitness testimony moved the investigation to the Dalanon family, which in turn led to the police pursuit and arrest that followed. The underlying police operation was about public safety. Its initial intent seemed to be to punish the alleged aggressors for their actions on law enforcement.

Upon their arrest, defendants Vincent Dalanon Sr. and Vincent Dalanon, Jr., were immediately returned to detention. She has since been detained at the Isulan police detention facility. Still, they’re almost never prosecuted—they are left hoping that some day, the right charges will be filed against them as investigations unfold. Before long, the state and the community will be on high alert while police attempt to put together the exact circumstances surrounding this organized act of violent crime.
