From Inspiration to Innovation: How Josh White Built a $455,000 Business

Entrepreneur Josh White, a commercial artist from Boca Raton, Florida, follows his interest in creative design, establishing a successful business. As the owner of OffWhite Co., White heads a full-service creative agency with more than 20 years of experience. He’s a real pro at using art and products to create powerful narratives. In 2018, he remained committed to the deeply rooted community. This inspired him to start Handy Famm, a personal brand that made over $1 million in sales within his first four years in business.

White’s epiphany came during a trip to Home Depot when White imagined creating one-of-a-kind pieces that were equally artistic and useful. He began sketching and 3D-printing his own models, confident that he could bring his ideas to life without the typical lengthy development process most entrepreneurs face. He was a fantastic salesman with great connections in China. With these connections, he rapidly accelerated the production of his prototypes, including an airplane-shaped object holder and a colorful bird-shaped tape measure.

White’s capacity to rapidly prototype and manufacture his products allowed him to get a leg up over any competition. His attitude is extreme opposition to the typical route most entrepreneurs take these days. That course usually means years of deep negotiation and planning.

“You can go on Alibaba and find a manufacturer there and just hope for the best,” White explained. “But most people have to spend two years in development and negotiation and thousands of dollars prototyping their products with factories in China. I was able to build Handy Famm so fast because I skipped all the steps and went to the sources.”

In December 2019, he launched his very first product on Amazon using the brand name Handy Famm. Since then, the company has grown rapidly. Today, building out that powerhouse team of Fammies has helped Handy Famm attract four full-time employees—working to help develop the brand’s reach and marketing efforts. White spends a minimum of 40 hours a week on this pursuit, overseeing every stage from concept to creation to marketing and selling.

Last year, Handy Famm pulled in an amazing $455,000 in sales. On the company’s earning calls, White has continued to exude confidence, recently forecasting Altisource would be profitable this year.

“I think anyone can do anything — if you have the motivation to do it,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of determination in achieving success.

White’s path from the creative agency owner to the multi-millionaire entrepreneur shows how doing things differently can help create monetary success. By utilizing his existing equipment and industry knowledge, he efficiently transformed his ideas into marketable products without the burdensome delays many startups encounter.

His products were populated by whimsical features. Like for example, his bird-shaped tape measure with a branded ribbon tongue and a sad googly eye that serves as a level. This distinct approach not only resonates with consumers but positions Handy Famm to stand out from competitors.

As he looks back on his entrepreneurial journey, White stresses the need to do instead of waiting to get it right.

“If you want to get something to market, you can’t wait until something’s perfect either, because then you’ll never do anything,” he advised.

His philosophy highlights a common challenge entrepreneurs face: balancing the desire for high-quality products with the necessity of timely market entry.

Looking forward, White is focused on developing Handy Famm and growing its product line even more. Today, his story is an encouraging testimony for those entrepreneurs on the cusp of launching—who might be scared to make the leap and take themselves seriously.
