George Clooney Makes Broadway Debut and Critiques Trump Administration

George Clooney, the acclaimed film star and double Academy Award winner, took his first strides on a Broadway stage October 5, 2023. He played Edward R. Murrow in the Winter Garden Theatre’s production of *Good Night, And Good Luck.* At 63 years old, Clooney’s performance marks a significant milestone in his illustrious career, as he takes on a role that resonates with themes of integrity and truth in journalism.

In a new interview, actor-turned-director Clooney spoke candidly about his feelings of contempt for former President Donald Trump. Having known Trump for more than three decades, he ridiculed Trump as a “demagogue” and “New York beast.” He thinks that most of what people are freaking out about Trump will go away once he’s not center stage.

In the past, Clooney has been very vocal in his opposition towards Trump. During a July 2020 SiriusXM appearance with Howard Stern, he described Trump as a “dumb goofball.” This comment, including his choice language, illustrates his personal exasperation at the previous administration’s model of governance. His criticisms of the former president have been vehemently opposed, not unexpected from the Trump-dominated Republican party.

Clooney was particularly ornery about our current political climate. He likened it to the dangerous year of 1968, in a period deep with social strife and political assassinations. He highlighted the parallels between then and now, suggesting that the nation is in a state of crisis that demands strong leadership.

Clooney’s op-ed in the New York Times sparked an outcry from conservationists. In it, he implored President Joe Biden to reconsider his decision to seek reelection. He advocates for a younger candidate to challenge Trump in future elections, arguing that new leadership is essential for addressing contemporary issues.

Clooney’s remarks prompted a response from Trump, who took to social media to dismiss the actor as “a second rate movie ‘star,’ and failed political pundit.” This vitriol exchange is an excellent illustration of the growing frustration between Hollywood elites and the political establishment. These disputes are vehicles for highly politicized responses from their fan bases.

“It’s funny because he’s just a New York beast.” – George Clooney

Clooney remains adamant about the challenges faced by the Biden administration and the need for fresh perspectives in American politics. He stated, “The one battle he cannot win is the fight against time,” referring to Trump’s waning influence as new generations emerge.
