Google Expands AI Features to Enhance Search Experience

Google has gained a lot of ground in improving search as the company invests heavily and integrates artificial intelligence into its search. The large technology company started experimenting with AI generated snippets, or AI Overviews as they’re called, in Google Search two years ago. It has come a long way since its inception, now powering over 1.5 billion users monthly global across more than 100 countries.

The company is currently working to deploy AI Overviews to additional regions and languages. This effort is a natural extension of their mission to provide the most frictionless search experience possible. Recently, Google announced plans to roll this out to major markets around the world. To the likes of India, Brazil, Japan, the U.K., Indonesia and Mexico.

Along with AI Overviews, Google is experiencing similarly eye-popping growth in its multimodal AI-powered search technology, Google Lens. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, said that searches using Google Lens have increased by 100 times. Since October, they’ve gone up by an astounding 5 billion! In addition to this, the amount of people purchasing through Google Lens grew by more than 10% in Q1 of 2025 alone.

Perhaps more significant is the jump in the usage of Circle to Search. This feature allows users to circle anything on their smartphone screens and ask mobile questions about it. This tool has made a phenomenal jump of almost 40% in usage from quarter to quarter. Circle to search is now widely available across 250 million devices in over 100 countries and territories.

As part of the changes, Google has significantly improved its ad strategy inside AI Overviews. In order to monetize its major investments in generative AI, while keeping users engaged, last October the company added ads to this feature. The ad integration fits into Google’s broader plan to pump more artificial intelligence into its search results.

All around, Google’s massive investments in AI technology continue to pay off as they extend their reach into the search experience worldwide. The overall goal, according to Google, is to create a more natural and informative search experience for users globally.
